INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

IWD2017

09 Mar INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

International-Womens-Day

International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities. The 2017 theme for International Women’s Day was “Be bold for change”.

Last year, organizations and individuals around the world supported the #PledgeForParity campaign and committed to help women and girls achieve their ambitions; challenge conscious and unconscious bias; call for gender-balanced leadership; value women and men’s contributions equally; and create inclusive flexible cultures. From awareness raising to concrete action, organizations rallied their people to pledge support to help forge gender parity on International Women’s Day (IWD) and beyond.

Did you know that International women’s day was first held as International working women’s day on February 28th 1909 in New York.

The first modern international women’s day celebrations were held in 1914, on March 8th.

Once the UN adopted the holiday, every year had a different theme.

During this day, we celebrate women and gender equality.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, we’ve collated inspiring quotes from women who defied gender stereotypes to excel in male-dominated fields.

“Don’t let anyone tell you you’re weak because you’re a woman.” Mary Kom, world boxing champion who was the first female boxer from India.

“Girls are the future mothers of our society, and it is important that we focus on their well-being.” Miriam Makeba, first black African woman to receive a Grammy Award

“The air is the only place free from prejudices.” Bessie Coleman, first African American female to become a pilot

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2017
